Brook was born on April 3, 1955 in Dallas, Texas to the late Gilman Allen Gray Sr. of Breckenridge, Texas and Elizabeth Ann (Davis) Gray of Corsicana, Texas.
He attended Permian High School in Odessa, Texas until his family moved to Marshalltown, Iowa before his senior year. He graduated from Marshalltown High School where he was an excellent student and member of the high school basketball team.
Brook attended two years of college at Texas Christian University and transferred to the University of California @ Santa Barbara when his family moved West. He graduated with honors from UCSB with a degree in Political Science. After graduation, Brook had the opportunity of a lifetime to live and play basketball in Melbourne, Australia. When he returned to the United States, he began a long and successful career in the men’s wholesale clothing industry.
Brook was full of joy and spirit and made lifelong friends everywhere he went. He was a kind and generous person spreading joy and laughter in his wake. Brook fiercely loved his friends and his family but he was most proud of his role as husband of 25 years to Patti Carsello Gray, and father to his two beautiful boys: Brook Andrew (23) and Hayden Daniel (19). In addition to his immediate family, Brook is survived by his brothers Ned Gray, Timothy Gray and Daniel Gray and their families.
Brook was passionate about giving back to those less fortunate. He adored his friends and family and was masterful at staying in touch with people. He loved sports (especially basketball), he was a lover of music and the arts, he was engaged and informed about politics and current events and he was an advocate of organizing and documenting his extended family history. We miss Brook dearly, but will cherish countless memories of a life well lived.
