July 29, 1939 - February 15, 2026
Gary was born in Upland, California, to Donald and Mabel Gannon, and had one younger sister, Kay. After high school, he attended Orange Coast College and played football there, before moving on to San Diego State University, where he graduated. Gary spent four years in the Army prior to owning his own construction company, and built many homes throughout Escondido.
In 1969, Gary married Judy Primrose McKeever, and now had three children he called his own: Teri, Mac, and Barry. Then came seven additional children: Laurie, Jennifer, Nikki, Jim, Kelli, Rick, and Kristi. With all these kids, came lots of sporting events and coaching. Gary built whatever the kids needed at the house to make life fun for everyone, and for his children to be able to chase their dreams. He was extremely involved in youth sports in Escondido and San Pasqual High School Athletics, even contributing to building the football stadium there.
Life for Gary revolved around family and taking care of others. He was always behind the camcorder, joking around, and quietly there for everyone in more ways than imaginable. Additionally, he was a selfless, devoted husband, and an exceptional caregiver to Judy in her final years, and until her passing in September of 2019.
With twenty-seven grandchildren, Gary’s legacy will live on in the lives of his children and grandkids. We will all remember him listening to his 50’s music and watching his old westerns. He has taught us all to be honest, patient, loyal, and hard-working, and we will miss him deeply.
At Gary’s request, there will be no public service. He just wanted for the family to gather, remember the good times, and keep the jokes going. We are all comforted by knowing that Gary and Judy will once again be reunited, and that their love and importance of family, will remain in the lives of everyone they touched.
