John H. Towns "Pops" was born on October 4, 1929 in Memphis, TN to John H. Towns Sr. and had one sister Louise Horrace. John is survived by his wife Debbie Towns; sons Eric Carr, Josh Cooper; daughters Sara and Rachel Cooper; and grandchildren Chaske and Jazmine Carr. John enlisted in the Army in December of 1947 and served four tours in the Korean War and he received the Korean Service Medal, 4 Campaign Stars, and 2 OS Bars. He was honorable discharged in April 1952 and then moved to Oakland, CA where he worked as a truck driver until he moved to Eureka, CA. He then worked at Simpson Pulp Mill for 26 years, retired and joined the rotary club and took on odd jobs to keep himself busy. He was never the type to sit around for long and kept busy working on cars or making jewelry in his shop. He will always be remembered for his love of Ford Mustangs. He was a very honorable man full of life's wisdom and would always be the first to help a person in need. He has touched many lives and in his passing we all lost one of the truly greatest men and everyone's best friend. May he rest in peace and know that he will be greatly missed, loved and always remembered. There will be a celebration of his life October 9, 2010 at the Humboldt Grange.
