

Oscar Miguel Camacho was born in Eureka, CA on December 16, 1960 and suddenly passed away November 21, 2012. Although he is no longer here on this earth with us, he will remain in our hearts forever. He was a loving, caring son, husband, dad and grandfather. He was good example of responsibility and work ethics. Oscar graduated from Eureka High School. Born and raised in Eureka, Oscar made many friends throughout the years. Everywhere he went, he ran into a friend. If there wasn’t one there, he would make one.
Oscar enjoyed life to the fullest. He made life more fun and exciting for those around him. His laugh was contagious. He had a special charisma that attracted you towards him and made you want to get to know him. He loved to golf. If you liked to golf, you’d enjoy it more with him. He loved to fish. If you like to fish, you’d enjoy it more with him. He loved to hunt. If you like hunt, you’d enjoy it more with him. He was very proud to teach our daughter Raquel how to hunt. They shared many hunting trips together with the Dellabalma family. Those are times he held very close to his heart. He loved to go to Trinity Lake and spent many years camping there with family and friends. He loved to Jet Ski and enjoyed taking the kids for rides, which are wonderful memories we will keep close to our hearts. He loved to snow ski. If you like to ski, you might want to meet him at the mountain, as opposed to participating in the 5 am departures to get there early. He took great pride at being the first one on the hill and the last one off. He enjoyed teaching his daughter Raquel and Grandson Javante to snowboard and took much enjoyment is sharing one of his favorite loves with them.
He also enjoyed many years at the family summer home in Willow Creek. Gardening, golfing and working in the yard. He had fun hunting down anything that needed “Oscarized” (fixing it in an Oscar kind of way) Fishing in the pond next door cracked him up. Talking about fish…..He was a self-proclaimed Sushi Chef, he loved to entertain and make huge plates of different sushi and share it with family and friends.
Oscar worked for Suddenlink formally Cox Communications for 22 years. He loved is work. He was an outstanding example of dedication and hard work. His work was part of his identity. He was recognized as top installer of the Western Region; 26 consecutive months as top sales person in the Suddenlink systems nationwide and received 9 consecutive quarter awards for top sales and 2 awards for Best of the Best 2008-2009. Suddenlink also implemented a “How to be like Oscar” contest throughout the system. He was often invited to the “Best of the Best Suddenlink Awards” In St. Thomas VI, Porto Rico, Acapulco, MX. He had one-on-one meetings with “Chairman and CEO Jerald L. (Jerry) Kent. They talked about Oscar’s success in the company, how he achieved it and how to implement his strategy company wide. Those were very proud moments for him.
Oscar also enjoyed traveling and always made it into a fun adventure because he had that certain sense of humor that could make anybody laugh. Be it getting dressed on the bay bridge and putting on shoes at stops signs to make it to Jerry’s wedding in San Francisco on time or going to Los Vegas and running the kids out to Hoover dam for “ 5 minutes” just so they can see it before the plane left to come home. He could turn a simple thing like walking the dog, into a humorous event.
Oscar loved life and wanted to do his part to see that others enjoyed it too by donating blood on a regular basis.
One of Oscar’s favorite childhood memories is being a boy scout. He was a proud member of Dan Hauser’s troop. He often told us stories of his troop back pack trips to the Trinity Mountains. He shared those stories with family and friends to the very end.
Oscar’s favorite title was “Papa Oscar” to our grandson Javante and granddaughter Jamya. He enjoyed going to Sacramento to watch Javante play basketball or taking them to Miniature Golf or just sitting with them quietly watching movies. His life with them was cut much too short. He holds a very special place in their hearts.
He loved and cherished his large family in Mexico and made many trips to visit them. They loved Oscar deeply. It is with great sorrow they will be unable to attend and share with us his final mass and celebration of life.
He loved and cherished his family who he leaves behind; his mother, Matilde Vega and her husband Francisco; his beloved daughters Katie Burres and daughter Raquel Camacho and her boyfriend Rick Roubidoux; grandchildren Javante Burres Achane and Jamya Miracle Spears and Janeane Britt, who he had been married to for 23 years. He had many special friends he held close to his heart; Russ and Rhonda Dellabalma and family; Mitch and Carmen Anderson and family; His high school friends, Jerry Lee Wallace and wife Michelle & family, Jeff Klemp and his wife Julie and family, Robert Agnew and his wife Lori, Jeff White and his partner Lisa McCombs and family and Oscar’s big white truck.
We would also like to recognize Jim Dennis who is officiating , Jeremy Hunter who edited the power point presentation and Dan Hauser, his boy scout leader.
He was preceded in death by his grandmother Paulette Cortez and father & mother in law, Bill and Dorothy Britt.
We will celebrate the life he lived.
A funeral mass will be held Friday, December 7, 2012 at 11:00 am at St. Bernard Catholic Church, 615 H Street, Eureka. Visitation will be held later that day from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Pierce Mortuary Chapel, 707 H Street, Eureka, with a Rosary to be celebrated at 6:00 pm. Father Mora will officiate.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Pierce Mortuary, 707 H Street, Eureka,on December 8, 2012 at 11:00 am with a graveside service to follow at Greenwood Cemetery, 1757 J Street, in Arcata. A reception will follow at Sacred Heart Church, 2085 Myrtle Avenue, Eureka.
Casket bearers will be his grandson Javante and friends Russ Dellabalma, Jerry Lee Wallace, Jeff Klemp, Robert Agnew and Jeff White.
The family asks you to bring favorite Oscar stories to share with us at the Celebration of Life, if you so wish. We invite you to attend any of the functions scheduled, as you choose. We understand that not everyone may be able to attend all.
