Robert "Bob" Edwards died suddenly, and peacefully, in his home on May 27th, 2012. Born January 5th, 1938, Bob was the only son of Leroy & Thelma Edwards. Due to various job changes for his father, in his adolescent years, Bob lived in Clearfield, UT, Oakland, and Stockton CA. Finally, in 1951, the Edwards family moved to Eureka where Bob spent the rest of his life.
Bob graduated from EHS in 1956, and within the year that followed, enlisted in the US Air Force. For the next 4 years in the USAF, Bob refueled jets at K.I. Sawyer Air Force Base in Marquette, MI. Returning to Eureka, Bob began his career at Shafer's Hardware in Henderson Center. As the years progressed Bob was promoted to Store Mgr., and then eventually became an owner/partner of both Shafer's and Fortuna Ace Hardware. After an attempt at retirement in the mid 80's, Bob stepped back into retail sales as an employee of Pierson's Building Center in 1989, where he has been employed for over 23 years.
Second to family, Bob spent much of his recreational time buying, selling, swapping, restoring and maintaining Ford Model A's. Bob was a very active member of the Humboldt Bay A's. Throughout his personal and professional life, Bob Edwards will always be remembered as a man whose word was his bond, and his handshake was a binding contract.
Bob lived with integrity, character, and an unshakeable commitment toward loving and caring for his family. His life of generosity and service to others is at the core of the legacy he leaves in his children and grandchildren.
Bob is survived by his wife, Mary F Edwards; his sons Chris (wife Sue) Edwards, and Mark (wife Cheri) Edwards; Frank E.(wife Michelle)Livingston; and his grandchildren Sara, Jessica, Anna, Tori, Clare, Bradley, and Rachael.
Friends are invited to attend a memorial service to celebrate Bob's life at Eureka First Church of the Nazarene, located at 2039 "E" St, Eureka, on Saturday, June 2nd, at 10:00am. A reception will follow at The Wharfinger Building, 1 Marina Way, Eureka, from noon to 2pm. The family encourages those who will be attending that own an antique automobile to drive them to the memorial service and/or the reception.
