

Alexander “Alex” Yates, 67, of Evansville, went home to be with our Lord, Wednesday, March 12, 2014, surrounded by loved ones. Alex was born in Greenford, OH, to the late Kenneth and Lorena (Sturgell) Yates.
He loved the Lord and enjoyed sharing the good news and his faith with all that crossed his path. He enjoyed sports and played baseball, basketball, and was on the track n’field team at Greenford High School. He received letters of merit and athletic awards for track, baseball, and for managing the basketball team, of which won the Greenford High Inter-County League Crown for the ’62-‘63 season. The family moved to Palms, CA in ’64, where Alex graduated from Hamilton High. After graduation Alex joined and served in the Naval service, where he was trained in navigation and mapping. Alex received an honorable discharge as a class E3 Petty Officer in ’67. He was awarded the National Service Medal and Vietnam Service Medal. He most enjoyed a gathering and loved playing board games, cards, and had a blast playing Balderdash with family, friends, and good food.
Alex is survived by his daughter, Tina; son, Andrew; granddaughter, Jordyn; brothers, Ken, Bob, Don and Jeff; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
He was a devoted father, loving brother, grandfather and friend to all.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, March 19, 2014, at Faith Baptist Church, 5601 Oak Hill Road, officiated by Pastor Ernie Godsell. Condolences may be made online at www.AlexanderNorthChapel.com.
