She attended and graduated from Lincoln School. She confessed faith in Jesus Christ and was baptized at a young age by Rev. W. R. Brown, Sr. and was a member of New Hope Baptist Church for many years. She later became an active member of Liberty Baptist Church. Alice worked 15 years for AMAX Coal Co. in Chandler, IN and had the distinction of being the first Black female to ever work 3rd shift.
Alice loved a good bargain and enjoyed shopping and rummage sales. She was a good mother, hard worker, and loved listening to gospel music. She had a green thumb and loved plants.
Alice leaves to cherish her memory: her sisters, Jennie Douglas, Lena Douglas (Robert) of Indianapolis, and Dorothy Reeves. Her daughters, Darlene Sanners (Ken), Deborah Douglas, Michelle Douglas, and Andrea Fischer (Charles) of Indianapolis. Grandchildren, Darion Sanners (Dyreka), Ken Sanners, Jr. (Jamea), Corey Sanners, Derrick Dillard, Kyra Douglas, Deontae Forrest, Raheem Forrest, Kiera Johnson, Kiana Jones, AJ Jones, and a host of great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, and beloved friends.
A Funeral Service will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday, August 15, 2020 at Alexander East Chapel, 2115 Lincoln Avenue, with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
