Bernice “Bunny” Poag, 92, of Poseyville, IN passed away Saturday, May 6, 2023 at Ascension Hospital. She was born on November 24, 1930 in the windy city of Chicago to Walter and Mary Stricula. Bunny was proud to say she was from the south side of Chicago. She met her husband, of 63 years, Don Poag, through a military pen pal program and married on September 8, 1951. Due to his military career, she moved frequently but especially loved their time in Hawaii. They eventually ended up in Don’s hometown of Evansville, IN. Her love for travel continued after military retirement where they visited Hungary, Poland, Mexico, Alaska, Florida, and South Carolina. Bunny was a member of St. Vincent DePaul, St. Francis Xaiver Parish, and St. Francis Women’s Club. Bunny was a devout Catholic and supported many charities including Sisters of St Benedict, Saint Pedro Pio and her parish. Bunny was blessed to enjoy family gatherings with 13 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Bunny was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Don Poag; and son, Ed Poag.
She is survived by her sons, Don Poag (Kathy), Steve Poag (Kim), Pat Poag, Harold Poag, Bill Poag (Christi); daughters, Beth Bryant (Mark), Kelly Tenbarge (Tim).
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday May 15, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. officiated by Father Ed Schnur at St. Franscis Xavier Catholic Church in Poseyville, IN, friends and family may visit at the church from 10:00 a.m. until service time.
Visitation will be held on Sunday May 14, 2023, from 2:00 p.m. through 6:00 p.m. at Alexander West Chapel 2100 W. Illinois St. Evansville, IN.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent DePaul or St Francis Xavier Parish.
