

He was a US Air Force Veteran and was stationed at Eielson Air Force Base in Fairbanks before Alaska was a state. He received a Civil Engineering Degree from Mississippi State University, a Meteorology Degree from MIT, and an MBA from the University of Evansville. He was employed at ALCOA from 1954 until he retired in 1990. He was a member of Methodist Temple, past president of the Evansville Rose Society, the American Society of Civil Engineers and a long time member of the Rolling Hills Country Club.
Billy is survived by his wife of 59 years, Joan D. Shelton of Evansville; son, John E. and Alice Shelton of Indianapolis; daughter, Claudia Ann Shelton of Gadsden, AL; son, Gary D. and Marie Shelton of Evansville; grandchildren, Rebekah, Gabriel, Kenneth, John, David and Anne Shelton; great-grandchildren, Maya and Amani; three step-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.
Services will be 10:00 AM Friday, December 24, 2010, at Methodist Temple, 2109 Lincoln Avenue, officiated by Rev. Chris Neikirk with entombment in Alexander Memorial Park. The Vanderburgh County Retired Veterans Memorial Club will conduct military services at the cemetery. Friends may visit Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Alexander East Chapel, 2115 Lincoln Avenue, and Friday from 9:00 AM until service time at the church.
