

Charlie graduated from Bosse High School and then the University of Evansville where he played football for four years. He was a proud veteran, serving in both WWII and the Korean War. Charlie served in the Navy and Army. He was a 28-year police officer for the Evansville Police Department, where he patrolled the downtown district. Charlie was awarded the Officer of the Year in 1977. He also operated his own concrete business for over 20 years. Following retirement, Charlie and Joyce enjoyed traveling the country in their motorhome. He enjoyed woodworking, stained glass, and numerous landscaping projects.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Bancroft Henderson, John Henderson, and Paul Henderson.
Charlie is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Joyce (Benkert) Henderson; brother, Robert Henderson; children, Cheryl Henderson Guth, Kevin Henderson, Jeff Henderson (Jean), Jeff Birchler (Jeanie), Jerry Birchler (Bobbie), and Kimberly Williams (Dean); grandchildren, Jessica Guth, Jordan Guth, Alexander Henderson, Eric Henderson, Jacob Henderson, Becky Polen, Lisa Halter, Stefanie Simmons, Cameron Goedde, Taylor Williams, and Corbin Williams; 11 great-grandchildren; and his beloved dog, Tiki.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 13, 2025 at St. James Parish, 12300 S. 50 W. Haubstadt, IN, officiated by Fr. Kenneth Betz, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Friends and family may visit from 9:00 a.m. until service time at church.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff at North River Health Campus and Heart to Heart Hospice for their compassion and care.
