

Charles R. "Pete" Mayo, 86, passed away on Friday, April 17, 2015. Pete was born in Evansville on March 4, 1929 to Richard and Bessie Mayo. Pete attended Central High School and worked in maintenance for a number of Evansville companies, retiring from General Foods after 26 years.
In his younger years, Pete enjoyed square dancing with his wife "Tenny". He also enjoyed family vacations, fishing, attending bluegrass festivals, and traveling with Tenny in their RV to 48 states, Canada and Mexico. Pete and Tenny also enjoyed being snowbirds in Florida for many years. After moving to Leisure Living Apartments, Pete quickly became known as the "fix-it man" and also enjoyed calling Bingo and sharing his home grown vegetables. Very active, Pete enjoyed riding his bicycle throughout the complex speaking to everyone who crossed his path. He enjoyed meeting his fellow General Foods retirees for lunch on Fridays at Wendy's.
He was a soft-spoken man with a big heart and a wonderful smile, always willing to help anyone in need.
Pete was preceded in death by sisters Dorothy and Jeanette, and brothers, J. C., Jesse, and Larry.
Pete is survived by a family who adored him: His loving wife of 65 years, Virginia (Tenny), daughters, Mary (Ray) Young, Cherry (John) Endress and Nancy (Tony) Arvin; sons, Rick (Julie), Steve (Cindy), Roger (Cathy) and Keith (Kim) Mayo. Pete was blessed with 15 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren that each held a special place in his heart.
He is also survived by sisters, Betty (Wyman) Skelton, Judy Davis, and Peggy Hawkins and brothers, Jerry (Clauda Gayle), Sidney, Dennis and Mike (Piney).
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, April 21, 2015, at Alexander West Chapel, officiated by Rev. Terry Gamblin, with burial in Sunset Memorial Park. Friends may visit on Monday from 3:00 to 8:00 PM and Tuesday from 9:30 until service time at the funeral home.
