Charles “Charlie” Robertson was born on January 30, 1945 to Effie and William Robertson in Evansville, IN. The youngest of thirteen siblings, Charlie, was raised with the help of his brothers and sisters. Being the baby of the family, he grew up alongside his nieces and nephews. Often more like their older brother than an uncle.
After meeting his wife, Marion, Charlie devoted himself to his faith and together they enjoyed a life centered around the church. In his later years, Charlie had a very close relationship with his nephew Mike. Charlie came to rely on Mike as a caregiver and close friend. Mike’s passing earlier this year was especially difficult for Charlie but he found comfort in his belief that they would one day be reunited along with all his brothers and sisters.
Charlie possessed a happy go lucky spirit and a gentle soul. Friendly and talkative, he rarely met a stranger. He thought of everyone as his friend and had love for anyone around him. He would not hesitate to help others and would give whatever he could to ease their troubles, though he had little for himself.
His pleasures in life were simple; he loved country music and everything cowboy. Charlie had a talent for music and loved to play his favorite songs on the guitar, often accompanied by his brothers. Together they made many wonderful memories creating music and laughter. He also found joy in watching western tv shows and movies. He never tired of watching classic westerns and affectionately called them his “cowboy shows”.
Charlie had a special connection to animals, great and small. He found his calling in working as a horse trainer and worked with many prize-winning racing horses. He was so beloved by his horses, that some would refuse to run if Charlie was not present to cheer them on or soothe them prior to the race. At home, Charlie had two cats that were precious to him, and many more that he fed or cared for within the neighborhood. He worried over them as if they were his children and would have welcomed them all into his home if he could have.
Charlie leaves behind a large number of nieces and nephews who will treasure their memories of him and their time together. He has moved on to find peace and love amongst those who passed before him. Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, William and Effie Robertson; sisters Mary, Lottie, Madeline, Rita, and Sharon Rose; brothers, James, Thomas, Albert, Harry, Emory, Edgar, and Roy; niece Peggy Sears; and nephew Mike Scales.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, March 27, 2026 at Alexander West Chapel, with burial to follow in Alexander Memorial Park. Friends and family may visit from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
