Nécrologie de Clyde "Pete" S. Beck Jr.
Clyde (Pete) Samuel Beck Jr., 79-years old, went home to be with the Lord on February 4th, 2023, in the comfort of his home. Clyde was born on February 13th, 1943, in Evansville. Growing up he enjoyed spending time at his grandparent’s farm, fishing and hunting. His nickname “Pete” came about during those special visits with his grandfather. He attended Bosse High School and went on to graduate from North High School in 1961, where he participated in track and field. While in school he worked for Busler Oil Company. Clyde graduated from the Plumbers and Steamfitters Apprenticeship Trade School in 1966. He worked alongside his father at Clyde’s Plumbing Service until 1981 when Clyde Sr. retired. At that time, he became sole owner and operator of Clyde’s Plumbing Service until he retired in 2012. He helped his parents with Clyde’s Bath Boutique in his spare time. Clyde was also a co-owner of Industrial Pipe Threaders and would often spend evenings threading pipe after finishing up work for Clyde’s. As a Master Plumber, he was a member for many years of the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 136. In addition, he was a co-owner and manager of Beckmeyer Apartments. Clyde loved his work and took great pride in it; he loved interacting with his loyal customers and tenants over the years. Pete met Mildred, his lifelong partner of 58 years at church. After having their daughter Stephanie, Mildred worked beside him as secretary of Clyde’s Plumbing for 40 years. The two enjoyed traveling together as well as spending weekends at Kentucky Lake with their extended family. Clyde was an intelligent, hardworking, witty man, but most importantly he was a quiet servant. Pete was a lifelong member of Grace Baptist Church where he served as Sunday school secretary and on various committees. He often donated time and resources behind the scenes where they would go unnoticed, but that is how he preferred it. This was not missed by his granddaughter Tawne, who Pete jumped at the opportunity to raise. Clyde raised Tawne as a daughter, and the two had an inseparable bond up until the very end Pete was an avid University of Evansville basketball fan, attending every game at Robert’s Stadium was a full family affair. He happily converted to a University of Southern Indiana fan when Tawne began cheerleading there in 2010 and remained a Screaming Eagles fan while watching Jonathon play baseball. Pete had a special relationship with Jon that carried over to his great grandchildren who brought him so much joy in his final years. After a healthy, active life, Pete had a tumultuous run with cardiac issues, strokes, dementia and cancer over the past 12 years, often seeming invincible. However, we are all ultimately temporary, only here at the Lord’s disposal and it was time for Pete to be called home. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Anthony Stephens, MD, Dr. William Hardesty, MD, caregiver Shanera Henton, and friend Rodney Snyder, as well as the staff of Heritage Hospice for the love and support they provided Pete throughout the past few years. He is preceded in death by his father, Clyde S. Beck Sr.; mother, Nina (Hall) Beck; daughter, Stephanie Beck Tipton; and dear pet, Zoey. He is survived by his loving wife, Mildred Joyce (Morehead) Beck; granddaughter, Tawne (Jon) Wandling; great grandchildren, Witten and Charlotte; and sister, Pat (Tom) Savage of West Terre Haute, and many other dear nieces and nephews. Clyde’s family invites you to honor and celebrate his life on Saturday, February 11th at 10 A.M. at Alexander North Chapel at 4200 Stringtown Road. The service will be officiated by brother-in-law, Dr. Tom Savage with a special word by friend Rodney Snyder. Burial will follow at Sunset Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Friday, February 10th from 4-7 P.M. at Alexander North Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made in Clyde’s name to Grace Baptist Church or the Alzheimer’s Association. Condolences may be made online at www.AlexanderNorthChapel.com
