Connie was born on November 24, 1946 in Vincennes, Indiana to James Bruce and Venita Gertrude (Kaiser) Krueger of Newburgh, Indiana. She is preceded in death by her parents and her sister Kathy (Allan) Wood of Rockport, IN.
Connie had a loving and giving spirit. She had a passion for cats and enjoyed spending time with her family either going to “the boat,” flower gardening, researching genealogy, or shopping for a good deal. And while she was dealt a bad hand when she was diagnosed with lung cancer in May of 2023, she was handed a great one with her 54 year marriage with Clem.
Following graduation from Castle High School, Connie worked at Central Industries in Chandler, IN. She saved for a house while Clem was in the military. Following the birth of her third son, she worked at Hardee’s Restaurant on St. Joe Avenue. Connie returned to work so she and Clem could provide opportunities and experiences for her sons that she did not have at a younger age—including studies in theater and music at the University of Evansville, youth sports, and college educations. She later retired from TJ Maxx on Lynch Road in 2012 where she was one of the original hires in 1986—fondly known as 86’ers. During retirement Connie enjoyed painting, antiquing, the 127 Yard Sale, rehab shows and spending time, anytime, with her grandchildren. But, the day was not complete without ABC Evening News with David Muir.
Connie is survived by her husband Clem Horstman of Evansville, IN; her three sons, Bruce (Chastidy) Horstman of Evansville, IN; Bryan (Leta) Horstman of Evansville, IN; and Bradley (Caitilin Soderstrom) Horstman of Wolcott, VT; grandchildren Taylor Kane of Clarksville, TN; Echo Hickrod, Emma Horstman, Arwyn Horstman, Adam Horstman of Evansville, IN; Otto Horstman of Henderson, NV; Lokie Horstman and Rue Horstman of Evansville, IN. Additional survivors are her sister Kathy’s family; Allan Wood and Jeff Wood, of Rockport, IN; and Julie Bell and Anna Bell of Henderson, KY.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. CST on Friday, August 30th at Alexander Funeral Home East Chapel in Evansville, IN. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. A private burial will be held at a later date with immediate family. The service will be live streamed at www.facebook.com/funeralstreamusa
In remembrance of Connie and her love for cats, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to animal shelters such as Vanderburgh Humane Society, Humane Society of Henderson County, Warrick Humane Society, It Takes A Village, and St. Rupert Cemetery Endowment.
