

Curran M. Miller, 94, a prominent businessman and dedicated servant of the community, passed away on April 21, 2010, at the Heritage Center. He was born February 28, 1916, on a farm in Southern Warrick County.
Curran was the founder of Curran Miller Auction & Realty Company and was a successful auctioneer for more than 52 years and a real estate broker for 40 years, licensed in Indiana, Kentucky and Illinois. He was a member of both the State and National Auctioneers Associations and served as President of the Indiana Auctioneers Association in 1956 and 1967. He was appointed by Governor Branigan to serve on the first Indiana Auctioneers Commission in 1968 and was later appointed for another term by Governor Whitcomb in 1972. Curran was the first inductee into the Indiana Auctioneer Hall of Fame in 1971.
Curran was a farmer and had long been interested in soil conservation. He received the Conservation Farmer Award in 1971 and the Rural Urban Award in 1972. Curran also served his community with distinction. He was President of the Vanderburgh County Fair Board from 1950-1955 and the first president of the Vanderburgh County 4-H Center Association from 1950-1954. He was a 4-H leader for many years.
Curran was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church on Volkman Road since 1945 and had served as both President of the congregation and Sunday School Superintendent.
Curran was born and raised on a large livestock farm in Warrick County. He had always loved his horses and enjoyed giving family and friends horse and buggy rides on the family farm.
Curran was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Ann; grandson, Todd Blackburn; sister, Lela Ashley; brothers, Marvin and Carl Miller
He is survived by his daughter, Wanda Sohn (Don); son, Hugh Miller (Judy); daughter, Karen Woolston (Dennis); grandchildren, Trent Sohn (Lori); Wendy Miller; Stephanie McKinney (Neil), and Blake English, all of Evansville; Candace Jeffries (John) of Connersville, IN; and Courtney Woolston of Fishers, IN; 8 great-grandchildren; a sister, Beulah Robb of Marion, IN; sisters-in-law, Nancy Miller, Eileen Volkman and Selma Volkman; nieces and nephews.
Services will be 11:00 AM Monday, April 26, 2010, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 1925 Volkman Road, officiated by Pastor Kirk Horstmeyer with burial in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery. Friends may visit from 1:00 to 6:00 PM Sunday at Alexander North Chapel, 4200 Stringtown Road and Monday from 10:00 AM until service time at the church.
