Dana Ray Sharp, 68, of Evansville, passed away surrounded by his loved ones after a brief battle with cancer on November 21, 2017. An Evansville native, Dana was born on July 13, 1949 and graduated from F.J. Reitz High School. After graduation, he attended broadcasting school in Columbus, Ohio. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Debbie Jarvis Sharp; his brother Jon David Sharp; children Kristina Sharp, Jennifer TenEyck, Millissa Sawyer, James Sharp, Danielle Titzer, and Sean Sharp; fifteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Dana served in the United States Air Force in telephone communications. His first assignment was at Andrews AFB in Maryland where as a part of his duties he maintained the communication systems on Air Force One and Air Force Two. One of his proudest moments was when he was stationed at Clark AFB in the Philippines as the Vietnam POWs were released. Dana installed the telephones on which the POWs called their families. As a retiree, volunteering at the Evansville VA was one of Dana's favorite activities, second only to spending time with his grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life service will be held December 3, 2017 at Unitarian Universalist Church, located at 2910 East Morgan Ave in Evansville from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to St. Jude’s Research Hospital. Condolences may be made online at www.AlexanderWestChapel.com.
