

David was a 1955 graduate of Reitz High School where he enjoyed playing football. In later years he worked at Sterling Brewery and in 1966 became a Trooper for the Indiana State Police. His assignment started in Madison, IN, later Vincennes and retired and moved back to Evansville in 1989. At that time, he became a Special Deputy for the U.S. Marshall Federal Court Protection Service. He served in that position for 13 years.
David and his wife, Sharon, married in 1958. They have three children who in adult years live at a distance. This led to David and Sharon spending lots of time on the road, a favorite pastime for them. He was a member of Simpson United Methodist Church. After retiring he enjoyed working at Habitat and worked seasonably at Paragon Promotions.
David is survived by his wife of 67 years, Sharon (Rueger) Deer; daughter, Dana Kepler (Terry) of Montgomery, Texas; son, David Deer (Lisa) of Renton, WA; and daughter, Sara Ellsworth (Marcus) of Indianapolis; grandchildren, Rebecca Ashmore (George), Tom Kepler (Kim), Arika CeFaratti, Dustin Deer (Karina), Megan Ellsworth (Fiancé Hayden), and Sam Ellsworth (Erin). They have 11 great-grandchildren.
David was preceded in death by his mother and father, Virginia Ruth and Walter Deer; stepfather, Wilfred Luigs; sister, Judith Beck; brother, Jon M. Deer; and sister-in-law, Elaine Deer.
Memorial contributions may be made to Simpson United Methodist Church.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 31, 2025 at Alexander West Chapel, 2100 W. Illinois Street officiated by Pastor Kenny Armitage followed by burial at Tupman Cemetery.
