David Hudson

David Wayne Hudson, 78, of Evansville, IN passed away Thursday, November 9, 2023 peacefully at home. He was born in Evansville on July 23, 1945 to the late Melvin Clarence Hudson and Sylvia (Taylor) Hudson.

He loved spending time with his family. In his younger years he helped coach his sons’ sports teams. More recently he enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports. He was very involved with F. J. Reitz football, playing on two Mythical State Championship teams, including the 1961 unscored upon and undefeated team. David attended Evansville College (UE) on a football scholarship. He worked for the Evansville Police Department for 32 years, starting as Patrolman and retiring as Detective.

He owned and operated Mudd Rock Investigations and Chairlance Transport. As a hobby he enjoyed escorting funeral processions.

The family would like to thank Deaconess Palliative Care, AseraCare Hospice, especially Jordan, Jane, Casey, and Carma and Senior helpers, Mariah and Amy.

David was preceded in death by his parents, brothers-in-law, Don Thomas, and Jim Powell.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Linda (Youngblood) Hudson; sons, Carey Hudson (Tracey), Casey Hudson (Holly); grandchildren, Jossie Hudson, Braidyn Hudson, Brockton Hudson, Ashley Mayo (Aaron) and Andrew Baum; great-grandchildren Charlotte and Caroline Mayo; sisters, Susie Thomas and Marilyn Powell of Evansville, and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, November 17, 2023 at Alexander West Chapel, 2100 W. Illinois Street, Evansville, IN followed by burial in Park Lawn Cemetery. Friends and family may visit on Friday from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
