

He was an active member of Bethel Temple, where he ushered, volunteered at the Christian Life Center, and picked up and delivered food for distribution to those in need. He retired from Evansville Appliance Parts, co-owned a general store in Owensville, IN, and worked for Vendall Company after serving in the Army from 1953-1955. He was stationed in Guam and Seoul Korea after basic training in Ft Knox, KY.
Dewey enjoyed doing handyman projects and used his gifted skills to help family, friends, and the Christian Life Center. He also enjoyed spending time with family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his son, Scott A. (Cindy) Smith; daughter, Diana (Glen) Hoff; sister, Lois Dean Schultheis and her husband, Bud, who Dewey considered to be the brother he never had; grandchildren, Chris (Amy) Neth, Jamie (Landon) DaPrile, Christina, Steven, Andrew Smith; and great-grandchildren, Devon and Leigha Neth and Austin and Case DaPrile.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Thursday, January 28, 2016, at Alexander East Chapel, officiated by Rev. David Schwambach, with burial in Clark Cemetery in Owensville, IN. Military funeral honors will be performed at the cemetery. Friends may visit Wednesday from 3:00 to 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
The family wishes to give a heartfelt thanks to Dr. William Hardesty, Dr. Thomas Waits, the OHA staff, and the special people at Deaconess Hospital and Charlier Hospice Center who cared for Dewey.
