Dolores A. Tapp, 74, died peacefully on Friday, June 27, 2014, surrounded by her loving family. While many will mourn her absence, Dolores considered her passing a long awaited home going to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Psalm 73:26 “My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.”
Dolores was born in Henderson, Kentucky, the second daughter of Mary Ellen Tapp Cheaney. A graduate of Lincoln High School, Dolores matured into a person known for loving people unconditionally and lived out her faith in actions and deeds. She was a member of Progressive Holy Temple Church for over 40 years under the care of Elder William and Mother Simmons. While she loved her relationships with numerous friends and family members, she was most proud of her three children.
Rhonda Fisher is her eldest child and only daughter. Rhonda encompasses Dolores’ best qualities and will continue her legacy. Rodney Tapp is the eldest son that tried to honor his mother as written in the scriptures. Their trip to Washington D.C. was a major highlight for Dolores. Kevin Tapp is the youngest son who is affectionately known as the “hugger” of the family.
Dolores was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Ellen Tapp Cheaney; and her eldest sister, Barbara Rankin.
She will be deeply missed by all who loved her. She is survived by siblings, Dolphine (Donald Lee) Shanklin and Houston Tapp, Jr.; daughter, Rhonda (Jerry); sons, Rodney (Wanda) and Kevin Tapp; grandchildren, Shaneese, Melissa, April, Joy, Whitney, Candice, James, Marie, Monique, Rodney Jr., and Kierra; aunts and uncles; and numerous nephews, nieces, and great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank Pastor Levon Dozier and the MSA Hospice team for their support and care.
A Going Home Celebration, officiated by Apostle William W. Simmons, Sr., will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, July 5, 2014, at Progressive Holy Temple Church, 1700 Pollack Ave, Evansville, IN 47714. Friends may visit Saturday from 9:00 am until service time at the church. Condolences may be made online at www.AlexanderEastChapel.com.
