Doris graduated from Reitz High School in 1946. She played the steel guitar in an all-girl band that performed at local USO’s, which is where she met her husband Charles William (Bill) Lamkin when he returned from serving in WWII. They were married for 57 years at the time of his death in 2005. She worked for Dr. Edward Murphy for 30 years and owned and operated craft and floral shops, Designs by Dee, in Henderson and Evansville. In her 70’s and 80’s, Doris worked at Auntie Anne’s at Eastland Mall and as an assistant at Elements Interior Designs. Doris was ahead of her time in regards to women in the workplace. She was well known for her creativity and artistic ability. She was a life time member of Bethel UCC. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother. She adored her grandchildren and was very well loved by all who knew her.
Survivors include her son Todd Lamkin (Tracy) of Newburgh; daughter Jennifer Stephens (Greg) of Boonville; grandchildren Laura Kirtman (Sam), Christopher Lamkin, Michael Lamkin, all of Newburgh; Jamie Heeke (Garren) and Jessica Eatmon (Patrick) of Evansville, and great-grandchildren Alex and Emma Kirtman; Jaden Eatmon and Freyja Mae Colbert.
A funeral service will be held at Alexander East Chapel on Friday, December 31st at 1:00 p.m., with private entombment at Alexander Memorial Park. Friends and family may visit from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
