Doris Jean (Sanders) Halwes

Doris Jean (Sanders) Halwes, 84, of Evansville, passed away Friday, December 6, 2013, at Deaconess Gateway. She was born August 7, 1929, in Evansville. Doris graduated from Stephens College and the University of Evansville. She was a volunteer for the Evansville Day School and the Opportunity Shop. Doris was a life member of The University of Southern Indiana Foundation and a former board member of the Historic New Harmony. She was preceded in death by son, Joel Halwes. Doris is survived by her husband of 54 years, Elmer W. Halwes, Jr.; sons, Jeffrey B. Halwes of Birmingham, AL and Jon E. Halwes of Jefferson City, MO; and brother, James A. Sanders of Evansville. Services will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, December 11, 2013, at Bethlehem United Church of Christ, 6400 Oak Hill Road, officiated by Rev. Mark Sirnic. Friends may visit Tuesday from 3:00 to 7:00 PM at Alexander North Chapel.
