I am so sorry to hear of your mom's passing.  I know she is with your dad and all of the rest of the family.  I loved your mom and have many fond memories of her and your dad that I will treasure the rest of my life.  May God give you peace.

When I was a little kid, we lived just across the alley from "Aunt Dot" and Uncle Jack. I used to run over there alot. Dorothy was always welcoming and kind to me. I remember her making me cinnamon toast. After we moved away we saw her less frequently but I always loved to have her meatloaf and peanut butter fudge. She and her sisters always made sure we had a summer picnic and a Christmas gathering. We all miss her at Christmas this year and I trust that she is with Dad and Pearl and Junior, reminiscing about the old days and knowing how much we miss them.

     I have known Dorothy most of my life and she became closer as my Sister-in-law in 1954 when Roy and I were married. She and Jack told us about the house on 22nd street when we moved to Terre Haute in 1959. We bought it,moved in and made it a home. Terri was two at that time and Linda and Dan were born while we lived there. Nice to know that she and Jack were just across the alley. We were outgrowing it and two weeks before Steve was born we moved. Always felt close to them and Dorothy was the go-to lady for addresses and birthdays to send cards. Sleep in peace Sister, I will miss knowing you are a phone call away. Love you Rosalie

       I am sorry to hear of the passing of your mother and grandmother. She was always nice to me. I know she loved her grandchildren very much. She will be missed. I like all the pictures. The then and now picture of her and Kenny is very special. Love to you all.

Aunt Dorothy always knew how to make this niece feel important and loved. I will miss her very much.

I couldn't have said it any better than Greg.  Grandma will be missed by many.

While I'm deeply saddened to lose my grandmother, I can look back fondly on the life she lived, all the people she helped take care of, and of course the impact she had on me. She was the oldest of eight siblings and very early on became a caretaker for them(practically raising them in some cases), as well as the many, many nieces and nephews they had over the years. She always wanted to make sure everyone had plenty to eat, even if that meant sacrificing most of the pay my grandfather brought in from his job on the railroad to help her nieces and nephews. Because of her early responsibility, she was always very protective of everyone and had a very straight-laced and no non-sense approach. Even when we were driving between Terre Haute and Evansville, we always made her worry and wanted a phone call to let her know everyone was safe. There was no issue with her in letting you know if you were doing something she did not approve, but never turned her back on you and would still unconditionally love. The care and love she had for other people is easily her best quality! For me, I think this helped keep me grounded and always think about my actions before doing them.

As one of her two grandchildren, I can say she fulfilled her role as a grandmother flawlessly and I was definitely spoiled rotten. :) I could always expect getting a dollar in the mail when she sent a holiday card (and still expect that when anyone sends me a card ;)). Jello (usually w/ bananas), cheesecake, and/or her signature banana pudding every time I came to visit? You can bet on it! Speaking of food, she was an excellent cook! Could usually expect at least one home cooked meal every time we came for a visit.

While this will not be popular, but she really did not like animals. I think it stemmed from the fact that they usually meant more work for her while taking care of everything she was already doing(plus "they stink!") or perhaps the thought of an animal attacking someone gave her a low opinion. This story is mean, but funny. :) I remember we were in her front yard and she saw a stray dog across the street wondering around, minding his own business. She politely called the dog over to us. When the dog arrived, she blasted him with a jet of water from the hose and sent him running! :) Now that I've painted the picture, our beagle, Shelby, was always the exception! Since my brother and I loved the dog, she had no choice but to tolerate her. ;) I'm still amazed to this day that when we visited and brought the dog with us that she could say something like "You go lay down on that rug and I mean it!" and without hesitation, Shelby somehow knew exactly what and where she was talking about and would lay down on the rug! She was a true, alpha pack leader. :)

She was also the type of person who did not want to cause a hassle or inconvenience anyone. With that said, she did not want to have any services and chose to be cremated. We'll have a private, graveside service at some point, but no need to send flowers anywhere for those who are wondering or have already asked.

I love and miss you, Grandma!
