Born on April 18, 1943, to Edmund L. and Frances M. Spalding, Ed grew up with a deep sense of responsibility and hard work. He lived a life of military service and family. After graduating from Rex Mundi High School, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving his country with honor for 23 years, including many years stationed overseas.
A man of persistent work ethic, Ed often held multiple jobs throughout his life, despite this he always made time for things he enjoyed, playing cards, singing karaoke, and spending time with his grandchildren.
Ed is survived by his third wife of 26 years, Sharon Spalding. He leaves behind three daughters, Angela Allen (Charles), Amanda Peterson (Erik) and Cathie Spalding; a stepdaughter, Laurel Semon; and his beloved grandson Isaiah Semon, whom he helped raise. Ed was a proud “Papaw” to a large family of many nieces and nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many others who cherished him as their own. He is also survived by his siblings; Harry Spalding (Lana), Ron Spalding (Robin), Rita (fiance, Dave) Hubbard, Chris Spalding (Kathy), and Joann Spalding (Dianne).
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Loretta Duvall; brother, Tony Spalding; brother-in-law, Sid Hubbard; and stepsons, Bert Semon and Nathan Semon.
Ed’s legacy is one of laughter and generosity, he will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in the countless lives he touched.
