

Eileen Martin passed away at Good Samaritan Home on Thursday, November 25, 2021. She was born Bertha Eileen Lucille Mumford of parents Charles and Opal Mumford on May 7, 1934. Eileen spent her childhood in Tilton, Illinois but later attended high school in Catlin, where she sat next to George Martin in many of her classes. They became high school sweethearts and married on August 20, 1951.
George was employed by Ayrshire Collieries (later to become AMAX Coal) shortly after high school graduation. Eileen moved with him to a number of different mining operations and office locations in Illinois, Kentucky, and Indiana and they eventually settled in Evansville in 1995.
Eileen made a successful 70 year career as a wife and mother. She raised four daughters and a son and was always active in supporting them as they grew to be responsible adults. As a young mother, Eileen professed her faith in Christ at First Baptist Church in Greenville, KY. Throughout her many moves through the Tri-State, she worshipped and served faithfully with her family at a local church. She was currently a member at Community Central Church of Evansville.
Eileen is survived by her husband George; daughters: Lyndall Snowden, Cheryl Sprague (Wayne), Valerie Spiller (Ed), Jennifer Martin; grandchildren: Denise Johnson, Holly Fagan (Jeff), Sara Boeckelman (Keith), Caleb Schrader (Donna), Brandy Eller (Jason), Season Schrader, Joshua Sprague, Damon Martin (Morgan), and Paige Martin; nine great grandchildren; sister-in-law Ruth Mumford and nephew Kenneth Mumford.
Eileen was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Opal Mumford; her brother Ed Mumford; her son-in-law Michael Snowden; her son Patrick Martin; and her grandson Christopher Sprague.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 4, 2021 at 11:00 A.M at Alexander North Chapel, officiated by Pastor Dan Sigler and Pastor Ryan Moore. Friends and family may visit from 9:00 A.M until service time at the funeral home.
