Ellie had many dear friends. Please join us to celebrate her life. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. CDT on Saturday, October 2, 2021, at the Methodist Temple officiated by Rev. Andy Payton, with inurnment in the Methodist Temple Columbarium following the service. Visitation will be held Saturday from 1:00 p.m. CDT until service time at the church. Please wear a mask for the safety and well-being of others. Alexander East Chapel will be handling arrangements. Eleanor (“Ellie”) Stone Breckenridge, 93, died October 15, 2020 in St. Louis, MO. She was born July 13, 1927 in Forest Hills, NY to John F. and Helen Smith Stone. She received her B.A degree from Mount Holyoke College and an M.A. in English Literature from Columbia University. After graduation, she taught at the Connecticut School for the Blind. She married her husband John B. Breckenridge in Forest Hills, NY on May 3, 1952. They moved to Evansville, IN in 1959. She served on the Board and as an officer of the Evansville Day School Board of Trustees, the Evansville Day School Mother’s Association; Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra and Guild; Evansville Dance Theater and the University of Evansville Theater Society. She also served on the boards of Evansville Arts and Education Council and Indiana University Friends of Music. Ellie belonged to the Methodist Temple for more than 50 years and served as a Trustee on the Building Committee, as an usher and cared for the grounds for many years. She was also a member of New Century Club, and loved gardening, reading and travel and had visited more than 70 countries. In 2016 she moved to St. Louis, MO. Ellie is survived by her three sons, John C. Breckenridge and wife Michelle of Houston, TX, Stephen K. Breckenridge and Susan Roberts of Charlotte, NC, and Alan S. Breckenridge and wife Elaine Moss of St. Louis, MO. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Andrew, Jessica, Carter, Camden and Jet. Ellie is pre-deceased by her husband of 57 years, John, and brothers Richard F. Stone and Andrew W. Stone. Memorial contributions may be made to the Methodist Temple Grounds Committee Fund.
