Eva Kinnaird Kattau, 74, of Evansville, Indiana, went to be with the LORD on January 21, 2015. She was the daughter of the late E.W. Kinnaird and Eva Kinnaird. She was born on November 10, 1940 in Adairville, Kentucky.
Eva graduated from North High School in 1958, received her BA in education from University of Evansville in 1962, then completed her master's in education at Indiana University. For 38 years she taught at Reitz High School as a beloved English and drama teacher. In 2000, she retired from teaching at Reitz. For the last two years she taught the Intensive English Program at University of Southern Indiana. Eva never really retired as her teaching and theater career was a passion and calling that she continued to live out.
Eva never had children of her own, but had thousands to whom she was not only a drama coach and English teacher, but also a mother. To quote one of her students, Kathy Jones, “Eva always had a smile for you, and if you needed a shoulder to cry on and a hug to make your day better, she would do that too. I have always called her mom, because when my mom could not be at school to guide me, Ms. Kattau would always be the one waiting to help when I went to her. She gave more love and had more compassion for her work and students than any teacher I know. I will miss her more than I can ever describe right now. I know that she is in a better place than we are, and I hope the stage lights are shining bright on her as she takes the stage in heaven.”
She attended Christian Fellowship Church and was a devoted sister to Ann Ritz and Danny Kinnaird, and to their spouses Al Ritz and Donna Kinnaird. She was an amazing aunt to Brian Ritz, Betsy Hendricks, Holly Korby, Annie Williams, Johnny Kinnaird, Tyler Kinnaird, and their families.
Friends may visit 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM Friday, January 23, 2015 at Alexander North Chapel. A time to reminisce and celebrate Eva’s life will begin at 7 PM. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Saturday, January 24, 2015 at Christian Fellowship Church, 4100 Millersburg Road, Evansville, IN.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Vanderburgh Humane Society, 400 Millner Industrial Drive, Evansville, IN 47710. Condolences may be made online at www.AlexanderNorthChapel.com.
