After high school, she made her way to the “BIG” city, Evansville, IN. It was there that she attended a dance at the National Guard Armory and met the man she would later marry. On February 26, 1946, she married her one-true love, Robert “Bob” Barney. They built a beautiful life together. Although they would end up moving quite often, she would always turn their new house into a beautiful and loving home. They were lucky enough to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on February 26, 1999, with their family and friends.
Our mom was a hardworking, loving wife. She raised us well and was always there for us if we ever needed anything. She absolutely was the best mother any child could ask for.
Mom was a great pool player and always accepted a challenge from her kids and grandkids, she often won! Our mom also loved her trips to Florida with Dad. Many times, us kids would go too. We had a lot of great times together!
One of her greatest joys was spending time with her grandkids and great-grandkids. You would always find her on the floor playing with them for hours. She loved being a grandma and a great-grandma!
We have to mention what a great cook mom was. She was known for her “famous” dressing at Thanksgiving. No matter where we were having Thanksgiving, it went without saying, Mom would make the dressing. Many of us have tried to replicate her recipe with no luck. Mom just had the knack. She was also known for her drunken hot dogs, always requested at any family get together. As well as her pumpkin bread and amaretto cake.
Our mom, grandmother, and great-grandmother was the true definition of an angel on Earth. She was truly a kind, generous, giving, loving, and beautiful woman, inside and out. She was loved so very much. For me personally, she was not just my mom, she was my best friend. She is going to be dearly missed.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Kenneth, Ralph, and Shirley Devillez; as well as her husband, Robert (Bob) Barney who passed on January 21, 2000.
Evelyn (Mom) is survived by her son, Robert Barney (Deb); daughter, Brenda Barney Hernandez; grandsons, Rob Barney (Alyssa), Andrew Barney, Michael Barney (Natalie), and Evan Hernandez; great-grandchildren, Evalie, Bennett, Mia and Lennon Barney; along with many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.
Mom, you are already missed deeply. I’m thankful I was able to help care for you over these last few years. You were more than just a mom; you were a best friend. We love you!
