

Evelyn Louise (Pearson) Hamby, 93, of Dayton, OH, formerly of Evansville, IN, passed away Wednesday, August 12, 2015, at The Wellington of Dayton in Dayton, OH. She was born December 28, 1921, in Evansville, to the late John W. and Elsie (Ginger) Pearson.
She was married to her beloved husband of 71 years, Delmar E. Hamby, on June 19, 1943. She attended St. John’s East United Church of Christ. She attended Campbell Elementary School and graduated from Bosse High School in 1939, Evansville College in 1943, and Indiana State University in 1966 with a Master’s Degree in Education. She completed additional graduate work at the University of Evansville. She was employed by Republic Aviation Corp. during WWII while her husband, Delmar, served in Europe. She also worked at her family’s grocery store, Hamby’s Market, at Eighth and Powell in Evansville. Evelyn taught at Daniel Wertz for the 1945-46 school year and then taught Home Economics at Dexter for 23 years, retiring in 1984. She was a member of the Evansville Retired Teachers Association and the Outdoor Boating Club. She enjoyed camping and boating, collecting shells, playing golf, making various craft projects, and spending time with friends and family in Lake Barkley, KY, Bradenton, FL, and in her home.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Delmar, on September 19, 2014; and sister, Carolyn Sauer.
She is survived by her daughter, Judith Ann (Jim) Kaster of Troy, OH; son, Richard (Janet) Hamby of Evansville; grandchildren, Dr. Tim and Dr. Zach Hamby, Krista Weiberg, Jason and Scott Kaster; great-grandchildren, Taylen, Jackson, and Garrett Kaster, Kiley, Cooper, Sidney, and Jake Hamby; niece, Pamela Sauer; and nephew, John Sauer.
Graveside Services will be 12:00 PM Monday, August 17, 2015, in Sunset Memorial Park, officiated by Rev. Kenneth Townsend.
