

She was born on April 20, 1923, near Hiram, Ohio to the late Gustav and Jennie (Ristau) Dreger.
Evelynne graduated from Hiram High School in 1940. After working in Cleveland, Ohio, for several years to earn money to further her education, she attended and graduated from Anderson College and from The Ohio State University. She taught in public schools in St. Elmo, Illinois and in Frankton, Anderson, and Mt. Vernon, Indiana.
She married Charles Lonnberg in Cleveland, Ohio, on August 17, 1957. Over the course of their 43-year marriage they lived in Bloomington, Anderson, and Evansville, Indiana. Charles died in 2001.
Evelynne’s Christian faith was central to her life. Evelynne was active in church music and worship planning for several decades. She directed vocal and handbell choirs at Howell United Methodist Church and Trinity United Methodist, where she and Charles were members. She also served on worship committees on the local and district levels. Later, she faithfully attended Morningside Presbyterian Church, where she served many roles including chime choir director.
She was very active in handbells, organizing 15 festivals in Evansville, and participating in regional and national handbell festivals. Also, she and Charles sang in the Evansville Philharmonic Chorus for several years and presented vocal programs at local nursing homes.
In addition to Charles and her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers Robert, Walter, Alvin, Adolph, William, and Gilbert; and sisters Martha, Ida (Lau Weigelt), Margaret (Schulz), Lydia, Esther, and Ruth.
Evelynne was the proud mother of sons Bill (Cindy) of Bloomington and Tom (Kelly) of Newburgh. Grandchildren include Adam Lonnberg (Gabi) of Cleveland, Ohio, Sam Lonnberg of Greenwood, Michael Lonnberg of Evansville, and Emma Lonnberg of Bloomington.
The family would like to thank the staffs of Evansville Protestant Home and AseraCare Hospice Care for their skill and compassion in caring for Evelynne.
A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, February 24, 2025 at Alexander East Chapel, 2115 Lincoln Ave., Evansville, IN 47714 with Rev. James Messer officiating. Friends and family may visit on Sunday, February 23, 2025 from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Monday from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the funeral home
