Gene A. Kuester, 91, Evansville, passed away February 8, 2021. He was born in Evansville, IN to the late Harry J. and Valada M. (Hahn) Kuester. He was a US Army Veteran and retired Teamster after 29 years from A&T Concrete Supply. Gene married the love of his life, Norma Lee Hoefling on Septmeber 11, 1954 and they were married 49 years before her passing in 2003. After losing his wife, he moved from Haubstadt back to his homeplace in Darmstadt. Gene was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church; Darmstadt Retirees; Knights of Columbus; and American Legion Post #0194. He loved Farmall tractors, the St. Louis Cardinals and IU Basketball. In his younger days he played the drums with his father in a band and mastered the piano playing by ear. Gene loved to dance and was always light on his feet. He always enjoyed when family and friends came to fish in his lake. He also loved to play Clabber and played in leagues at one of his favorite places to go, the Darmstadt Inn. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife; brothers-in-law, Donnie and Charles Hoefling; sister-in-law, Betty Hoefling; and nephews, Scott Hoefling and Kenny Maikranz. Gene is survived by his nieces and nephews, Joyce Dewig (Don) of Haubstadt, Sheila Maikranz of Ft. Branch, Brenda Hoefling of Haubstadt, Stan Hoefling (Lois) of Princeton and Kenton Hoefling (Lisa) of Evansville; sister-in-law, Betty Hoefling of Haubstadt; lady friend, Helen Benton of Evansville, 19 great nieces and nephews; 20 great great nieces and nephews; and several cousins. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 12, 2021 at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, officiated by Father Luke Hassler, with burial in Sts. Peter & Paul Church Cemetery where military rites will be conducted. Friends may visit Friday from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the church. The funeral service will be livestreamed on the South Gibson Catholic Facebook page. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Kidney Association.
