Gordon Lee Sides

Gordon Lee Sides of Evansville, Indiana died December 6, 2009, at Deaconess Hospital.He was preceded in death by his wife of 38 years, Gehl Ann Sides; parents, Robert and Minnie Sides of Fort Branch, Indiana; and brother, Kenneth Sides of Cannelton, Indiana.He is survived by his daughter, Pamela Haynes and husband, Brian, of Bettendorf, IA; son, Jerry Sides and wife, Chris, of Evansville, IN; two grandchildren, Travis Sides and Megan Haynes; brothers, Robert E. Sides of Henderson, KY and William Sides and his wife, Sonja, of Fort Branch; uncle, Richard Lintz; and nieces and nephews. He spent the last few years of his life with a special friend, Joan Hamilton, by his side.Gordon was born in Fort Branch, Indiana in 1941 and was the youngest of four brothers. He graduated from Indiana State University in Terre Haute, IN and received an MBA from the University of Evansville. His career spanned over 30 years in various accounting functions many of which he performed in the Evansville area. He spent the majority of his career with AMF in their electronics division, but also spent time at Indiana Tube and MPD in Owensboro, KY.He was an avid golfer and spent many hours on the courses in and around Evansville.During his remission with cancer, Gordon provided encouragement and a listening ear to many friends or acquaintances when they were diagnosed with cancer or other terminal illnesses.Upon early retirement, Gordon found enjoyment in volunteer activities such as SCORE and serving on the Red Cross Board and finance committee. He was a member of Oak Meadow Country Club, Elks, Kiwanis and Optimist Clubs.Services will be 10:00 AM Thursday, December 10, 2009, at Alexander East Chapel, officiated by Father Ted Tempel with entombment at Park Lawn Cemetery. Friends may visit Wednesday from 2:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, 6301 Old Boonville Hwy, Suite B, Evansville, IN 47715.
