Herb was a WWII U.S. Army veteran and was proud to have flown to Washington D.C. on the 2nd Honor Flight. He retired from SIGECO at the age of 55 where he was a control operator. After retirement, he and his wife, Marilee, owned and operated Harper Manufacturing for 25 years, where they made Erie Dearie fishing lures. He was a member of Washington Avenue Church of Christ since 1985 and loved the Bible. Herb was a Kentucky Colonel and historian. He enjoyed fishing, camping, traveling, singing, and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 5 sisters; 4 brothers; son, Mark Harper; daughter, Jennifer Harter; and grandson, Jason Hoffman.
Herb is survived by his wife of 56 years, Marilee (Ennis) Harper; daughters, Jacqueline Rico and Joy Alldredge (Tony); grandchildren, Amanda Monroe, Rachel Patrick (Trey), Karla Hoffman, Tyler Harter (Tiffany), and Bryce and Max Alldredge; great-grandchildren, B’Jai, Elijah, and Billie Grace.
Friends may visit from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 12, 2022 at Alexander East Chapel. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 13, 2022 at the funeral home with Alan Bush officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park where military rites will be conducted.
