Hope Marilyn Nelson

She moved with her husband, Robert Peter Nelson, to Evansville in 1962. She graduated from Beloit College with a Degree in Music and held a Master’s Degree in Organ from Drake University. Mrs. Nelson was a highly respected musician here for over 40 years, and taught piano and was an organist at St. Lucas United Church of Christ. She was a member of the American Guild of Organists, National Piano Guild, Mu Phi Epsilon music fraternity and PEO International, an organization supporting education for women.

Mrs. Nelson was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Peter Nelson.

She is survived by her son and daughter, Dr. Robert P. Nelson Jr.; daughter, Karen Nelson (Paul) Moser; granddaughter, Madeleine Grace Manka; and grandson, Lukas Manka.

Funeral services will be held 1:30 PM, Friday, September 4, 2015, at St. Lucas United Church of Christ, 33 W. Virginia St, Evansville, IN 47710, officiated by Pastor Lynn Martin and organist Mark Hatfield, with burial in Alexander Memorial Park. Friends may visit Thursday from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Alexander West Chapel.
