i remember when we went fishing and i caught a snapping turtle. i was freaking out but you weren't. you calmly picked it up and tossed it back. i miss you dad.

Hello, I served with James in the 82nd BSB. James was a great soldier, awesome leader, but a even better person. The world could definitely use more people like him. We miss you man 

Hi, I served with James and remember when he first came into the 82nd BSB. We knew right off the bat he would be a great brother to have. We miss you dearly, I know we will see you again at the gates of heaven with that bright maroon beret on your head.

I am so very sorry for your loss.  Matt sounds like he was such an upstanding, young man.  My thoughts and prayers to all of you.  May God give you strength and comfort you.

Many people have offered their condolences and shared their thoughts about Matt.  Matt touched so many lives and it's wonderful to hear that he was liked and respected. We loved him dearly and losing him too soon is heartbreaking. Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to write, call, or post. It doesn't make it easy but with time, I hope it will aid the healing. God bless you all.

Matt was such an amazing human being, he made this world a better place. His dedication to his wife and daughter, and his perseverance through this battle were truly remarkable. Matt will likely hold the record for the most marathon medals won during BMT for a long long time to come.

You will be missed but never forgotten I am so glad that I was able to know you even if it was a very short time.

I will always remember you as the sweet, energetic, and scrappy little boy who would follow Mel and I around in the backyard asking us to include you in our games. Many years have passed since then, but I'll always remember you that way. My heart aches, but I'm trying to find comfort in knowing that you're not hurting anymore and that you touched so many lives.

I remember Matt well from our many years of living next door.  He grew into a fine young man and gave our country his best in service overseas.  Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this time.  May God provide you with comfort and peace.

Matt was not only my brother; he was one of my best friends. I miss him in so many little  moments of each day already.  Thank you to all who have supported him and the rest of us during these few years past.

Matt felt like part of our family since he and Scott were inseparable since middle school. He was always the best friend to Scott and a joy to have at our house. We will miss him terribly. Our love and prayers are with you all.

While I didn t know James well I do know Melanie from years ago. I followed his battle with hope and admired the love and courage put forth by the family and James himself a true portrait of courage in the service and life

Grieve for him to the center of your soul because you and he deserve it.  At the center of your soul I pray you find peace, comfort and strength. He is loved and he loved in return.

Please know you are all in our prayers at this most difficult time. I remember attending services at Peace Luthern Church and admiring the love and compassion that your family shared with each other and with the congregation.
