He graduated from Mt. Vernon High School in 1976 where he played football. Jim retired from GE/SABIC Plastic in January after 38 ½ years of service. He was a member and past president of Mt. Vernon Jaycees and a current member of Mt. Vernon Elks. Jim’s passions were watching his grandchildren grow up and their sporting events. He enjoyed golf, football, and following his North Carolina Tar Heels.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; recently his grandson, Camden Hancock; son, Johnathon Shea; and brother-in-law, Jon Darren Cox.
He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Deborah; daughter, Jessica Ruddell; son, James III; son, Dyke Hancock (Nicole); sister, Nancy Schulze and her daughter, Brooke Roberts (Daniel); grandchildren, Ryley Hancock, Briana Ruddell, Ryan Ruddell, Jr.; father and mother-in-law, Bill and Lillian Cox; sister and brother-in-law, Dinah Moore and Duane Cox (Tawana); and many nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
Funeral Services will be held 1:00 PM Friday, October 12, 2018 at Alexander West Chapel officiated by Pastor Dave Bowersox and Pastor Stan Hoffman with burial in Alexander Memorial Park. Friends may visit 2-7 PM on Thursday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Camden Hancock Legacy Scholarship Fund at any Old National Bank.
