

He began working as a truck driver at the age of 17 and retired from Koester Farms. Jim enjoyed working instead of staying home, trucking was his life. He was a member of First Baptist Church. Jim was a former member of Newburgh Masonic Lodge No. 174, Evansville Scottish Rite, and Hadi Shrine Temple. Throughout his journey east, he joined the Drum and Bugle Corp, the Car Club, and the Hospital Staff. Jim could start just about any project and enjoyed watching westerns and traveling.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary Ann Tharp (2007); sisters, Mary E. Tharp and Bonnie Halterman; brother, George Tharp; step-mother, Alice Tharp; son, Michael Tharp; son-in-law, Doug Kennedy; and granddaughter, Rebecca Tharp.
He is survived by his beloved dog, Morgan; daughters, Patty Kennedy, Barbara Mann, Sandy Yoder (John) and Heather Bugg (Johnny); daughter-in-law, Maggie Tharp; grandchildren, Kyle Tharp, Kasey Kennedy, Buster Mann (Kelly), Jason Mann, Toby Yoder (Nikita), and Todd Yoder (Conci); great-grandchildren, Riley Mann, Karley Mann, and Kylee Mann.
A special thank you to Tonya Combs and Trish Arvin for helping take care of Dad these last few months.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 19, 2023 at Alexander East Chapel with Pastor Cliff Herring officiating. Burial will follow at Park Lawn Cemetery. Friends may visit on Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
