She was born on April 23, 1939, in Clay, Kentucky, to Malcolm and Ruby (Brinkley) Mattingly.
Jan graduated from North High School, class of 1957. She deeply valued her friendships and loved getting together for lunch. She had a standing lunch date with her family every Saturday and dearly loved spending time with them. Jan enjoyed being at Rough River Lake; boating, relaxing, and simply being with her loved ones at the cabin.
She had a special way of making holidays magical for her grandchildren, who fondly remember her cookies, cheesy potatoes, and carrot cake. Jan was known for her unwavering support, devotion, and the many life lessons she lovingly passed down—often remembered as “Grannyisms” or “Granny Law.”
Though humble, Jan took great pride in all she did. She carried herself with grace, poise, and a quiet strength of character.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved husband of 50 years, Judge Robert Lensing.
Jan was one of eight siblings: Bettye, Kathy, Kent, Morris, Ronald, Jimmy Sue, and Brenda.
Jan is survived by her son, Bill Lensing (Angie); daughter, Maureen Lensing; and her grandchildren: Austin (Claire), Jacob, Grace, Alyssa, and Hope.
Her family extends a special thank you to the staff and nurses of Deaconess Hospice for their care and compassion.
