Jerry C. Jones, 79, of Newburgh passed away on Thursday, April 15, 2021 at his home. He was born March 5, 1942 in Evansville. He was a graduate of Central High School in 1960. He served in the National Guard and was a member of American Legion Post 44. Jerry retired from Whirlpool after 32 years and was a member of Local 808. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Henderson, KY. Other memberships and activities include, Local 808 Retirees treasurer, sergeant of arms and trustee, ASA Softball lifetime member, ASA Youth Regional Commissioner, he was a baseball and softball umpire for 35 years, referee with Recreation Church Youth Basketball, coached St. John 7th and 8th grade basketball in 1977-1979, coached and played on the Whirlpool basketball, softball and volleyball teams, volunteered with the Special Olympics Area 10, coached women’s softball including Agoga Team which played in the 1984 Nationals in Sacramento, CA and coached the men’s and women’s Agoga Tri-State Tournament basketball teams. Jerry was loved by many and never met a stranger. He enjoyed spending time with his family, grandkids and especially his great-grandkids. He was their biggest fan and attended many of their events. He enjoyed watching basketball, baseball and football. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alberta “Birdie” Jones; mother, Mabel Lucille Rogers (Joe Rogers); father, Gabe Carson Jones and brother, Travis Jones. Jerry is survived by daughters, Jennifer Hall (Steve) and Joanne Bishop (Jerry); grandchildren, Ashley Stone (Cody), William Bishop (Lindsey), Brayden Bishop, Kaleb Hall, Tory Hall and Austin Hall; great-grandchildren, Brianna Hall, Evarissa Hall, Emma Utley, Anna Utley, Rylee Stone, Caraline Stone, Louella Stone and Wesley Bishop; brothers, Joe Jones, Gordon Jones (Karen) and Keith Jones (Beverly); sisters, Linda Montejano (Rudy), Connie Samples (Mark); step-mother, Dorris Jones and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank friend and caregiver, Ann; Deaconess Hospice and Vickie’s Caregiving Service Team for their care and compassion. A Funeral Service will be at 11:00 a.m., Monday April 19, 2021 at Alexander North Chapel, 4200 Stringtown Road, officiated by Rev. Gordon Jones, with burial in Sunset Memorial Park. A livestream of the service will be available at www.facebook.com/FuneralStreamUSA. Friends may visit 2:00 to 6:00 p.m., Sunday, April 18, 2021 and Monday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Area 10 Special Olympics.
