JoAnn McGregor, 93, passed away Wednesday, November 18, 2020, at Signature Healthcare. She was born in Evansville, Indiana to Charles Francis Lietz and Florence (Kerlin) Lietz. She grew up in Evansville and was a graduate of Central High School. Following school, she moved to Chicago, Illinois where she went to work for the United States Treasury Department during WW2. A few years after the war, she returned to Evansville to help her father with his political campaigns and to serve as his page in the Indiana State Senate. After her Father’s sudden death, she went to work at Meade Johnson where she was employed for 38 years.
Upon her retirement, she joined her husband to begin their worldwide travels. She and Leo traveled to all 50 states, Canada Nova-Scotia as well as two mission trips to Mexico. Their favorite trip was to The Holy Land where they walked the same paths as Jesus. Another of the couple’s interest was gospel quartet music, which took them on a gospel music cruise to the Bahamas.
JoAnn was a member of the Methodist Temple for 60 years where she volunteered in many roles for all aspects of the church. Her selfless dedication earned her the first SAMS Lifetime Achievement Award for her volunteer efforts. JoAnn was an active member of the Tri-State Tres Dias as well as a dedicated volunteer for many organizations such as RSVP, EVV Food Bank, and St. Paul’s Soup Kitchen. For 14 years, she volunteered on the Joint Replacement Unit of St. Mary’s Hospital encouraging patients with surgically replaced joints
JoAnn is preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Leo, parents, and two brothers. She is survived by her son, Michael Edward McGregor (Teena), her three granddaughters, that she adored, Olivia Beam (Logan) of Savanna, GA, Isabella, and Michaela of Evansville. Additional survivors include a brother-in-law Raymond of Pacific, MO; and sister-in-law Betty Lietz of Paris TX; step-grandchildren Matthew Holzmeyer (Kelly), Krystal Ungethiem (Andrew) all of Evansville, and step-great-grandchildren Landon and Brady and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephew. Her love for her family was only surpassed by her love for the Lord.
Visitation will be Wednesday, November 25th from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. A memorial service will follow at 1:00 pm with the Reverend Andy Payton officiating. Burial will be in Alexander Memorial Park.
