He retired as a lieutenant from the Evansville Police Department where he served for 32 years. John was a deputy coroner with the Vanderburgh County Coroner’s Office and previously a radiology technician at St. Mary’s Medical Center. He served in the US Marine Corps and was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Red Brush Rifle Range, and First Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed firearms and fishing.
John is survived by his wife of 51 years, Judy Althoff; daughter, Karen Thompson (Jeff); son, Kurt Althoff (Meagan); grandchildren, Emily Thompson and Evan Thompson; brother, Bill Althoff (Shirley), and nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, June 26, 2021 at Alexander Memorial Park Heritage Chapel, 2200 Mesker Park Drive, officiated by Retired Police and Firefighters Association Chaplain Ken Olson with full military rites and entombment in Alexander Memorial Park. Friends may visit from 12:00 p.m. until service time Saturday at the cemetery chapel.
