John is survived by his devoted wife of 43 years, Ruth Bandas; his daughters, Alicia (Ryan) and Julie (Eric); and his beloved grandchildren, Harvey, Hank, and Clara. He will also be fondly remembered by his loyal Yorkie companion, Chip. He was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley and Klara Bandas, and his brothers, Ed and Frank Bandas.
Over his 37-year career as a mechanical design engineer, John brought ideas to life—building engines from paper to prototype. His work included macro engines for NASA’s space shuttle program, commercial airline wing assemblies, and diesel engines. His ingenuity and dedication earned him three patents, a testament to his exceptional contributions to the field.
Outside of work, John found joy in the simple pleasures of life—fishing, woodworking, and spending time outdoors. His craftsmanship extended beyond his professional life as he built many beautiful pieces in his workshop and crafted intricate model airplanes.
John’s radio was always tuned to his favorites—Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, and ZZ Top. Though known for his quiet and reserved nature, John had an adventurous spirit that often took those around him by surprise. From biking down a volcano in Maui to whitewater rafting in Colorado, driving a Polaris Slingshot along the Blue Ridge Parkway, riding a tandem bike on Mackinac Island, kayaking in the Everglades, driving the Tail of the Dragon in North Carolina, and touring the Munsters Mansion in Texas, he lived life with curiosity and a sense of adventure.
John’s legacy of love, creativity, and curiosity will continue to inspire all who knew him. A celebration of his life will be announced at a later date.
