

John Norris Carter, 85, of Evansville, passed away Saturday, March 26, 2016, at Deaconess VNA Plus Hospice. He was born December 23, 1930, in Detroit, Michigan, to the late Henry B. and Virginia L. (Joyce) Carter.
He retired from Industrial Contractors in 1989 and was a member of Sheet Metal Local 20. He was also a switch foreman on the L & N Railroad (now CSX) for 8 years. He served his country in the National Guard for 6 years. John loved to travel and he and his wife Sandy took several trips out West, mostly to Las Vegas, where they were married. He also liked to play golf (he called it “flog”). He and Sandy “flogged” every week until his health declined.
John was preceded in death by his brother, Jerry Carter; sister, Jacqueline Presson, and uncle, Chester Joyce.
He is survived by his loving wife of 35 ½ years, Sandy Carter; daughter, Karen (Ted) Wilson; grandson, Jonathan Wilson; mother-in-law, Mabel Tallent; nieces; nephews; cousins, and faithful companion Dolly.
Funeral Services will be11:00 AM, Friday, April 1, 2016, at Alexander North Chapel, 4200 Stringtown Road, officiated by Rev. Raymond Abbott, with entombment in Sunset Memorial Park. Friends may visit Thursday from 1:00 to 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
