John Reine was finally called home Friday, June 25, 2021 after telling his family for many years that he was ready! He passed away peacefully at his home with his daughter by his side. He was known lovingly as “Honey” to most of his grandchildren. In true “Honey” fashion, it was only fair that several of his grandchildren helped carry him after death, when he spent so much time hauling them around in a wheelbarrow when they were young.
John was a member of Zoar UCC for many years. He served his country from 1949-1950 in the U.S. Army before being honorably discharged to return home to take care of his family. He retired from Bristol Myers at the age 60 giving him more time to take his grandchildren to “The Dark Place” and railroad tracks to hunt for tennis balls, crawdads and skinny dip in the creek. He greatly enjoyed antiquing and restoring furniture in his backyard with his wife of 52 years, Jean. After her death, he remarried and continued to look for treasures at flea markets and yard sales with his second wife of 14 years, Katie.
He was preceded in death by his “two great wives,” one daughter, and all 5 of his siblings.
Surviving John are two daughters and their husbands, Diane (Lee) Berger and Lois (Ron) Williams; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; son-in-law; sisters and brothers-in-law; step-children; and many friends he has made in his almost 92 years.
The family would like to thank the many “angels” that took care of him at The Village Assisted Living where he had resided for the past year and a half. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Heritage Hospice or Zoar UCC.
Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 29, 2021, at Alexander West Chapel, officiated by Pastor Art Christmas, with burial in Alexander Memorial Park. Friends may visit Monday from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
