Judith I. “Judy” Compton (née Skeel, formerly Hollis), of Evansville, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, October 4, 2025. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by her children. She had bravely endured a difficult battle with Parkinson's disease for several years. She was 78.
Judy was born February 18, 1947, in Brecksville, OH, to the late Lowell and Irene Skeel. She had a wonderful childhood growing up in the Cleveland suburbs with her parents, brothers, and the many grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins who lived next door or nearby. At the age of six she met her lifelong best friend, Becky Russell, who would later marry her twin brother, John. Judy and Becky loved caring for and riding their horses as children.
After graduation from Brecksville High School, Judy would go on to study at Kent State University and the Cleveland Institute of Art before graduating from Indiana State University – Evansville magna cum laude with a degree in Elementary Education. Judy would marry and raise her children in Lebanon, IN, where she taught school and was a substitute teacher. After relocating to Evansville in 1990, she went on to work for Citizens National Bank before finding her true calling as a funeral preplanner at Alexander Funeral Home, where she spent seventeen years helping local families plan for the end of life and was recognized as one of the top preplanners in the country. Judy would retire from Alexander in 2018.
Judy deeply loved her family and friends and was a woman of many interests and abilities. She was a talented artist and left us with many beautiful paintings and drawings, several of which were of animals. She also enjoyed creating crafts, and her handmade snowmen, Santas, and scarecrows were very popular at local craft shows. Judy enjoyed music, dancing, nature, taking walks, movies, and cooking. She loved family vacations to Hilton Head Island where many treasured memories were made. Most of all, Judy loved being a mother and grandmother, and her children were at the center of her life.
Judy was preceded in death by her brother, John Skeel. Surviving Judy is her son Mark (Kim) Hollis of Zionsville, IN, and her daughter, Heather Hollis of Evansville; her sister-in-law, Rebecca Skeel; her brother, Jim (Susan) Skeel; and three loving granddaughters, Morgan, Sophia and Ava Hollis.
A celebration of life will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at Alexander Funeral Home – North Chapel, with Pastor Jerry Wright officiating.
