Kenneth Karl Hay “Ken”, 73, of Newburgh, Indiana passed away Wednesday, May 5, 2021 at Deaconess Gateway Hospital. Ken was born April 28, 1948 to the late Earl and Dorothy (Schaaf) Hay in Evansville, Indiana. He attended Dexter School, Harrison High School, and graduated from North High School in 1966. He went on to attend Indiana State University, graduating in 1970 with a degree in Industrial Arts. He was hired in Warrick County as a traveling Industrial Arts Teacher and in 1976 was hired as the “shop” teacher at Castle Junior High School, where he loved to spend time in the classroom until his retirement in 2010. He enjoyed woodworking, cutting firewood, hunting, and fishing. Ken had a love for the outdoors. He was a lifelong member of Methodist Temple UMC and was on the Temple Hills Board for many years. Ken was a member of the ISTA-retired, the NEA, the Red Brush, and Eagles. Ken loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren Ken was preceeded in death by his parents; brother, Robert Hay; brother-in-law, Robert Jonas; sister-in-law, Wanda Hay; grandparents Will and Clara Hay, and Frank and Mary Schaaf. He is survived by the love of his life and life partner, Darlinda “Linda” Klassen, wife of 51 years on June 20; children, Karl (Andrea) of Spring, Texas, and Matthew (Nora) of Westfield, Indiana; grandchildren, Christian and Kiersten Hay of Spring, Texas, and Luke, Maddie, and Kate Hay of Westfield, Indiana; sister, Virginia Jonas of Newburgh, Indiana; nephews, Mark Hedges of Newburgh, Indiana, Brian (Tori) Hedges of St. Charles, Illinois, John Hay of Chandler, Indiana; and niece, Alicia (Marcus) Montooth of Evansville, Indiana. Funeral Services will be held 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 11, 2021 at Methodist Temple UMC officiated by Rev. Andy Payton with burial to follow in Santa Claus UMC Cemetery. Friends may visit from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday at Alexander East Chapel and 12:00 p.m. until service time Tuesday at Methodist Temple UMC. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Methodist Temple-Temple Hills. Condolences may be offered at www.AlexanderEastChapel.com.
