Kenneth Paul Temme, age 88, died in his home in Darmstadt, Indiana on Wednesday, June 20, 2018, and went to live eternally with Jesus. Ken was born on June 1, 1930, in Evansville, Indiana to Edwin and Clara Temme, and at the age of six, he moved with his family to Darmstadt where he was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church for the rest of his life. He taught Bible class for 64 years, sang in the choir for 70 years, planned and conducted 58 biannual church retreats throughout the Midwest, and served in numerous leadership positions of the church. For 12 years, he was the evangelism director for the Missouri Synod Lutheran churches in southwestern Indiana, serving on the National Board of Evangelism. In 1998, Concordia Seminary presented Ken the Christus Vivit Award in recognition of his years of dedicated service to his congregation and community. Ken was one of the founders of the Evansville Track Club and was the Track & Field Chairman of the Indiana Amateur Athletic Union for many years. Ken was a well-known 4-H leader of the Star 4-H Club, and his 4-Hers planted over 1,000 trees in northern Vanderburgh County. He had been the superintendent of forestry for the county fair, and in 1972, received the Urban Conservationist Award. He also served on the Darmstadt Town Board and was a member of the Huddleback Club. Ken was a worldwide traveler, visiting all 7 continents and over 100 countries. A graduate of Reitz High School’s Mechanic Arts Program in 1948, Ken was a partner of Adroit Mold & Tool and a principal of Temme Mold & Engineering. He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Nadine (Scheerger) Temme; wife of 5 years, Janet (Doehrmann) Temme, and grandson, Tyler Hopple. Ken is survived by wife, Dorothy (Chapman) Temme; daughters, Nettie Hopple and Kimberly Temme; son, Stanton Temme (Linda); grandchildren, Alyce, Anya, and Trenton Hopple, Lydia Wilcoxen (Tim), David (Elise), Ruth, Jonathan, Lois, and Silas Temme; step-children, Joel and Derek Doehrmann, LaDonna Brooks (Gary) and Eldora Baumgart (Fran); and brother Edwin Temme (Janet). Funeral service will be 11:00AM, Monday, June 25, 2018 at Trinity Lutheran Darmstadt, 1401 W. Boonville-New Harmony Road, officiated by Rev. David Wiist, with burial in Trinity Lutheran Darmstadt Cemetery. Friends may visit 2:00-7:00PM, Sunday, June 24, 2018 at Alexander North Chapel, 4200 Stringtown Road and Monday 10:00AM to service time at the church.
