Kenneth James Weiler, 88 yrs old, passed away Wednesday, October 16, 2019. He was born in Brooklyn, New York, as Kenneth Cunningham. When he was four years old, his mother passed away and he was raised by his father’s cousins, Florence and George Weiler. When Ken joined the army at age 21, he legally adopted the Weilers as his parents.
Ken served in the Korean War in 1953. When he returned home, he married his sweetheart, Norma Jean Coleman, on Valentine’s Day, 1954. They had three children. He was an employee of the US Postal Service and transferred from Merrick, New York to Evansville, Indiana, with his wife and children in 1968. After retiring from the Postal Service, he worked as a bus driver with EVSC. He was especially devoted to his wife of 65 yrs, his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ken spent most of his time helping family, friends and serving at church. He had a wonderful sense of humor. He was a crewmember of the LST325, and was thrilled to go on the Honor Flight EVV6 trip in 2017.
Ken is survived by his wife, Norma Jean; daughter, Debra Sickman (Matt); sons, Dennis (Joy) and Gary; grandchildren, Kendra Fultz (Matt), Melody Veal (Garrett), Stephen Weiler, Kasey Lewis (Justin); great-grandchildren, Nolan, Maggie, and Garrett Fultz, Mercy and Jude Veal, and Dakota Lewis.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 19, 2019 at Alexander East Chapel with Pastor C. Marion Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Park Lawn with military rites. Friends may visit Friday, 3:00-8:00 p.m. and Saturday 9:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
