Larry Roger Murray, lovingly known as Roger, Rog, Dad, Grandpa, Great-Grandpa, and Uncle Roger, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, December 12, 2025, at the age of 79, following a major heart attack in November of 2023. He fought a long, hard battle for two years and never gave up.
Larry was born on October 26, 1946, in Princeton, Kentucky. He grew up a country boy working on the farm and graduated from Fredonia High School in 1964. He attended Murray State College and Paducah Junior College, though life led him in other directions.
Larry married the love of his life, Paula, in February of 1967. They were blessed with one son, Paul, and moved to Evansville in 1969 for work. After a brief time on the railroad, Larry began a long career in trucking. He worked for Clairmont Transfer for 13 years and later for USF Holland Express for 18 years. In 2002, Larry became a Business Agent for Teamsters Local 215, serving until October of 2008. He also served his union faithfully as Trustee and as Recording Secretary.
Although he retired more than once, Larry truly never stopped working. He drove a school bus for EVSC for five years, later worked at Berry Plastics, and most recently was an escort driver for RK Transport, where he worked until the day of his heart attack. Larry loved being around people and found joy and purpose in staying busy. Larry believed in giving back, doing all he could, and helping whenever help was needed- because to him, helping was always the right thing to do.
Larry was a faithful member of First Southern Baptist Church and a member of the Shady Grove Masonic Lodge, and a Master of the 32nd Degree, Scottish Rite.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ellis and Lillian Waide Murray; his sister, Sharon Riley; and his brothers-in-law, Mike Dunn, Charles Riley, and Stevie Stevens.
Larry is survived by his loving wife, Paula; his son, Paul (Karla) Murray; grandson, Gavin (Madison) Murray; granddaughter, Cambell Murray; and his great-grandson, Davis Roger Murray, born October 3, 2025, who brought Larry his greatest joy during the final months of his life. He is also survived by his brothers- and sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.
The family would like to thank the many friends Larry made throughout his lifetime for their love, support, and prayers over the past two years, as well as his hospice caregivers, Brandi and Courtney, for their compassionate care.
Larry will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 20, 2025 at Alexander Funeral Home East Chapel, 2115 Lincoln Ave., with entombment to follow at Alexander Memorial Park.
