Born in 1926, Lois received her nursing education in Akron, Ohio. She was a valuable caregiver in the Nursing Corp during WWII and continued her nursing career and management of Urological Services through her retirement in 1988.
Lois' greatest joy came from giving to others. She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, always giving support and courage to family members to move forward and follow their dreams. Her poise, dignity and quiet strength were a consistent source of love and wisdom throughout her life, and she had a gift for making those in her company feel that they were the most special person in the room. Anyone who ever met her would remember her sweet loving kindness. Her life left no doubt that God welcomes her to heaven saying, "Well done, my good and faithful servant, well done!"
She is survived by Dr. Martin John Bender, her husband of 67 years, who was the love of Lois' life. Also surviving are son, Jeff (Carrie) Bender of Evansville, IN; and daughter, Melanie (Dan) Davis of Newburgh, IN; and Leslie Bender, daughter-in-law of Cambridge, NY. She is also survived by grandchildren; Sean, Shannon, Chris, Danielle, Emily, Brandon; and 10 great-grandchildren.
In addition, Lois was preceded in death by her first son, Gary (2001, Omaha).
Funeral Services will be held 3:00 PM, Thursday, August 31, 2017, at Methodist Temple, 2109 Lincoln Avenue, with entombment in Park Lawn Cemetery. Friends may visit 12:00 p.m. until service time on Thursday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Methodist Temple, Indiana University Medical School, or St. Vincent's Children's Obesity Clinic.
